I would like to say congratulations to Emma & Scott that married at St Marys church in Little Parndon, Harlow.

When I first met them and discussed their day with them I could tell how excited they were.  Emma and Scott are a charming couple and had a lot of idea’s being juggled for their one special day.  I was honoured to be chosen to capture it all for them.

Not everyone likes to have pre-bridal photography and I always keep this as an option.  After a lot of planning as to see if it is possible we decided to go ahead and capture that little bit extra of the day.

Next stop is the church itself as I left Gemma for her final prep moments and joined Scott and the guys as the guests arrive.

Emma & Scott are big photography fans, they both love the camera and they did not disappoint!  We did our first portrait session in the hire car from Crown Cars on arrival at the Harlow FC.

After some food the Bride & Groom wanted to do another portrait session and after some “persuading” to the football club they allowed us onto the pitch.  They almost said NO! and I was prepared to drive them quickly to my backup spot but it all turned out ok in the end.  I thought that this was good for Scott too as he is a big football fan.

Malcesine Castle Wedding Photographer – Lee & Laura got married!  After a short engagement, a new house and a dog they have now tied the knot at Lake Garda, Italy in Malcesine Castle.  Malcesine is located on the narrow strip of Lake Garda on its eastern side.  Scaliger castle itself was once a commune but the town and castle is one of the most attractive tourist spots.  Besides the beauty of the area and surrounding mountains the town itself has a photographic spot on every corner.

If you’re a food and wine lover there are more places to eat than I could count on my walks.  Being slightly in the north of Italy there is a mixture between Italian and Austrian cuisine. On one night I had pizza with a hugo to wash it down and the next night a Bavarian beer with pommes frites and bratwurst.  By the way a hugo is all my friends now drink after this trip out.

The First Day

On arrival I sought out Lee & Laura who were some where in the labyrinth style streets of the town in the 81F heat.  I found them in a restaurant near one of the many waterfronts by the lake.  As soon as the sun was low I convinced them to have a portrait session with me by a small water area.  This was a bit of an un-official pre-wedding shoot teaser but it also gave me a feel for the light and colours.

Malcesine ItalyI have gotten to know Lee and Laura quite well over the years when I first met them.  Lee is a friend of mine and approached me last year to look after his wedding photography. I first photographed Lee at his gym watching him shadow box! Then later on did some professional business portraits as well for his security portfolio.

The Wedding Day

The next day I headed out to the castle and as always the first to arrive and last to leave on any wedding day.  After quite a walk always uphill through the streets I found the entrance and meeting point.  I had a quick look around and checked my photography positions for the brides arrival for later.

Lee and his children arrived soon after and I finally started official photography of the Groom and Best man.

Laura arrived with her dad surrounded by tourists who also joined me in taking photo’s as she climbed the first level of steps.  I then joined Lee and awaited his first glance at the bride.

After the ceremony I had a very short time to make use of the castle before they opened the doors to the public.  We quickly went through the formal photography and let everyone get cooled down and hydrated.  Lee & Laura with kids in tow then went to various pre-chosen points of the castle with me and my small team of helpers.  This is what we captured…

The bridal party followed the newly weds to the reception are next.  It is really really hot so everyone including myself needed a well deserved drink after the portrait sessions.

Once the afternoon reception was over everyone retreated for a 4 hour break and to get ready for the evening.  At sunset everyone arrived at Al Cervo Ristorante for a four course Wedding Breakfast.

I have covered a lot of photography for various different emotional situations.  As an observer behind the lens you tend to become slightly separated from it all and concentrate on what’s in front of you.  In this case I am attached to the wedding party and part of what is going on.

This part caught me by surprise though.   During the grooms speech his children received a card from their dad.  Lee was giving out gifts to a selected few and although Lee tried to continue his speech they started reading out loud what the card said.  Lee laughed and so did the wedding party, but the boys continued and suddenly they burst into tears!

Lee comforted them and said “Its ok, see, its over now and we have a new home.”

 Wedding card

This is what the card reads;

“To Harry, Jacob, Jed

Thank You, much appreciated!

For being the kindest most understanding boys a father can have accepting Laura in your lives.

I know that it has been hard for you to adapt.  I am looking forward to watching you grow into young men.

Love you with all my heart.

Daddy & Laura xxxx”

I heard this from the children reading it out, saw their tears and the grand parents and suddenly felt tearful myself.  I am a dad of two boys myself of roughly the same age as Lee’s and I think for that moment my mind was on them.  My son’s have also been through a rough time in a similar situation as well.  Plus working away can take its toll sometimes but I quickly checked myself and re-engaged with the job at hand.

After the Wedding Breakfast everyone pretty much got into party mode…

Lake Garda Weddings – I was invited and booked to attend Lee & Laura’s wedding for three days and capture their very picturesque special day.  The location is at Malcesine which is famous for the Scaglieri castle .  The castle is at the highest point on a cliff overhanging Lake Garda, Italy.  You cant miss it as you can see from the image.  By the way in a month’s time of writing this post the main wedding highlights will be posted.  For the moment (and I rarely do such an early post!) I am allowing the pre-wedding photo shoot to be released.  Mostly because I know Laura wants to see something…right now!  😉

I took a walk through the hot streets with the best man and he led me to the restaurant where Lee & Laura had just finished eating.  I wanted to get started soon as the sun was breaking through the clouds.  Once the sun dips here behind the mountains beyond it gets dark fairly quick.  The cool thing about Malcesine is you can find something photographic on every street corner.  Right next to the bar was a small water area with some lasts rays of sun which I used to my advantage.  This was just a warm up session to get Lee & Laura used to the camera before their wedding the next day.  By the time we finished it was a lot darker.

I hope you enjoyed this little teaser.  There is a lot of work to do still on the main wedding and only the Bride & Groom get to see anything first!  I will update this blog when all is approved and ready, more later.

I have been intending to write this post about the wedding at St Mary’s Church Addington village for a while but have been so busy.  Roy and Amy from Croydon booked me through a very good friend of mine for their special day.  I started the day at Amy’s house in the morning and captured her bridal preparation photography and then went ahead to the church ready for her arrival by car.

Brides makeup brides makeup mirror

Halfway through the bridal prep a package arrived with some flowers from Roy.  It read;

“To my darling Amy.  Well our day is finally here and God knows we have waited long enough.  You are the love of my life.  I will do everything I can to make you happy and just to start.  A gift for you.  You get to tell our children they are going to America so you can see their faces.  Love Always, Roy.”

I can cover any wedding anywhere and sometimes it also has to be under tight conditions.  I love a challenge of sculpting a wedding and working with what I have.  This particular church was nice and large but also a little dark.  Also the church Vicar also asked for no flash photography taking away any extra chance of extra control.

One last final check that the rings have not been forgotten!

Amy finally arrives in a classic vintage.  It had started to drizzle but that’s not going to stop anything 🙂

JM Wedding Photography is the perfect choice choosing your wedding photography in Bishops Stortford.  Juan & Julie booked me for their special day at the Bishops Stortford registration office in ceremony room one which is really nice venue if your working to a budget wedding day locally.

The office interior is very spacious and with minimal décor it still looks great on camera.  Once the ceremony was completed we had agreed in advance to head straight to the reception.  At the GPCA in Harlow we completed all the formal photography and portraits and the party began.

During the reception they did the cake cutting when all the evening guests arrived but with one small mishap….the knife broke!

Julie & Juan are salsa dancers and they had a great time spinning on the floor the Link.  When the sun got low enough we got together and did a few more portraits and I was then free to capture more candids of the evening.

Take a look below to see.

Essex Wedding Albums

Our latest addition to our Essex wedding album collection accessories is the USB Brass Key.  I love its vintage look and feel, its solid and heavy in the hand which really does make it feel like a high quality product.  These keys have been added to our wedding packages that include them but if you feel one is not enough then please let us know and we will order you another and add an extra copy of your wedding day collection for you.

Below is a few images of our other printed wedding albums.  There is going to be lots more in the future and I will add and update more here soon from GraphiStudio and other suppliers of decent high quality products.  If you want to see more on prices and wedding packages, take a look at our wedding packages page and see whats new.

How to preserve your digital wedding album

Is your data safe?  Your data is as safe as you make it.  Having more than one copy of anything is a backup so yes adding an additional USB key to your collection will improve your odds against lost, stolen or broken keys.  However, I do always advise my couples after handing over a finished album on how to keep their data safe for life.

Firstly, I backup everything! so if you are a former client of mine and have lost your wedding album don’t worry I use a great service called BackBlaze that stores it all and my archives go way back to my first wedding (The blurred background image I used for the keys above is from that very wedding!).

For yourselves, once you have bought your wedding album and have taken your key home – copy everything from it to your home pc/mac.  Thats your first backup solution.  Its not permanent but its a start.

Next, add your album to a free form of online storage like dropbox or onedrive etc.  This is more permanent as its cloud storage (btw cloud storage is just a fancy name, its basically another harddrive that you can access anywhere online in the world that has the internet).  Another cool thing is you can share your cloud storage to family and friends too which means you now have a number of duplicate copies out there should you ever find you need one.

Hope this helps!

Kirsty wanted to have her own photoshoot at home and make use of her wedding dress Stansted Mountfitchet. The wedding dress is made by Justin Alexander which she saw in Harlow whilst visiting recently.

The sparkles and the white/silver design caught her eye and she decided this is the one and eventually managed to purchase it.  Although the dress is heavy to wear it complimented her vision as she wanted something a bit vintage but mostly because it reminded her of an old childhood movie called; “The Labyrinth

In the movie the Labyrinth there is a slow dance scene in a 17th century masquerade ballroom with actress Jennifer Connelly (Sarah) and the late artist/singer & actor David Bowie (Jareth).  Sarah is wearing whats been commonly called “The Labyrinth Ball Gown” and from past experience this scene has influenced many weddings of my generation and I to have attended one myself.  The first dance at the time was David Bowie’s – As the world falls down.

So below is a little bit of what we did late in the afternoon, a sort of bridal photography session but nothing serious just playing.

Hi, I thought I would share some wedding moments from my last few weddings and the theme for these are the wedding children and some of the things they get up to. Over the last few years I have covered a lot of weddings around Essex & Hertfordshire and every wedding always at some point presents a funny moment or a child doing something crazy with all the sugar running through them.   I’ll be posting more wedding moments later on as I have a few theme idea’s in mind for later but enjoy these ones for now.

More Information About James McConnachie Photography

What area’s of the country do you cover and are you willing to travel?

We directly cover Essex and Hertfordshire but willing to travel further if required.

How many photographs do I get?

Depending on how long you have booked us, we shoot on average 100/150 images per hour and work out after the event which images to use in your collection. The wedding day is special though and we wont shoot images for the sake of keeping up numbers, we are looking for quality moments first.

Can I legally print these myself or upload my images on social media?

Yes. All photography work is covered by the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 in the UK. The general restriction is you cant re-sell the collection or alter it.

What if it rains on my wedding day?

Challenge accepted! We happen to live in a country that has plenty of rain to go around and our photographers use weather proof equipment and carry umbrella’s. Rain can actually be a creative photographic opportunity, we have seen some really good work carried out in the rain. Just take a look in the gallery..

Do you have insurance?

Yes and liability insurance also which can be shown on request.

When we make a booking can we meet?

We do prefer to meet all clients in person to understand what it is they want the most out of the big day and work with them to help plan the day which in turn helps us and gives us a focus.
